As noted in my first post, my primary goal for this blog is to improve my writing.

Among other aspects, I would like to increase my vocabulary. By no means is this a new desire. When I was young I read through several sections of the family dictionary, a practice I haven’t altogether abandoned—recently, when in China, I read some of the “L” section and learned several fascinating and useful words including the word lachrymal, you should look it up.

Announcement

Well, I’m going to start up a section called “The Vocab Man”. I am subscribed to an email list for daily words, and I will take a few recent words and mold them into something that is hopefully interesting and definitely vocabulary expanding. At least for me, and maybe for you too.

Format

At the end of these somewhat discombobulated posts I will attach a list of the words I was required to use. It will provide definitions for those who are ignorant of them. Also, it will allow you to view the constraints of my post (since I must use them). Who knows, maybe you will be able to accurately hypothesize my train of thought as I moved from a short list of words to a . . . creative masterpiece [/sarcasm].

Blog Goals

This post will be brief. And for more reason than one: my purposed communication is simple and, although I have a propensity towards verbosity, my desire is to improve my communication, and I hope to begin now.

My goals are to…

  1. Improve my writing
  2. Preserve ideas
  3. Refine my ideas

The first two should be readily accomplished if I myself merely exert regular effort. However, the final goal would be heavily benefited by interaction with others, such as yourself.

Thus, I would greatly appreciate interested parties subscribing to (one such option) or bookmarking my site, and then interacting with me in the future. I welcome criticism of my ideas and writing (style/grammar), I also welcome agreement and others points to ponder.

Blog Content

The content will be varied (a reflection of my thinking). I plan to write in three different categories:

  • Miscellaneous
  • Essays
  • Reviews

Miscellaneous, because I don’t want to be excessively constrained. Essays, because I want to challenge myself beyond daily links or sound bites (goal #1). Reviews, because I like to get beyond just my thoughts; I believe considering and engaging other ideas will assist the refinement of my own (goal #3). Others certainly may follow, but I wanted to start with something of a game plan; here it is.

I look forward to writing. Check back in February if you will.
